Gray Area: A driverless Waymo car gave California police officers a surprise when they attempted to ticket it for an illegal U-turn — only to find there was nobody to hand the citation to. While police hope a quick “reprogramming” will keep the car on the straight and narrow, legislators are now looking to prepare laws to counter what’s effectively a legal gray zone.
