Little-known startup drops state-of-the-art voice model: A California-based AI company called Boson AI just released a surprisingly powerful TTS (text-to-speech) model called Higgs Audio V2 that’s capable of cloning voices and generating multi-speaker conversations with frontier-level performance. In one video demo, a Korean speaker and an English speaker have a seamless conversation by using V2 to translate their voices in near real-time. You can try out the open-source model here.

Anthropic finds that LLMs can send ‘subliminal messages’ to each other: The Claude-maker teamed up with research group Truthful AI to explore an unusual phenomenon: Models can transfer information and even nefarious behaviors “subliminally.” For example, a model might pass on its preference for owls by sharing data completely unrelated to birds, like a random string of numbers. Even stranger, this odd behavior appears to occur across various data and model types.
