AI shopping assistants are winning over skeptics

Consumers are beginning to trust AI with their shopping carts. According to a new study, nearly 32% of shoppers have either used or are open to using generative AI for purchases. Leading the charge are bridge millennials (38%), closely followed by zillennials (36%) and millennials (35%).

Comfort is growing, despite concerns. Reluctance to use AI at checkouts has dropped sharply from 66% to 32% in just six months, according to market automation platform Omnisend. However, 85% of consumers remain concerned about privacy.

Tech giants are beginning to take notice. Amazon’s ‘Buy for Me’ feature allows users to shop from external websites within its platform. Payment platforms like PayPal, Visa, and Mastercard are rolling out AI-powered checkouts to speed up transactions. Google has also entered the chat with new AI features like virtual try-ons and price tracking.

Startups are making their own moves. Perplexity is stepping up its game by offering Pro users AI shopping features like product and image-based research, as well as one-click check-out. OpenAI is also serving up “Shopping Results” in ChatGPT searches.
