1. xAI launches Grok 4 Fast: Elon Musk’s xAI has introduced a new version of its flagship model, Grok 4. The new model delivers similar performance to its predecessor while using 40% fewer reasoning tokens and slashing benchmark task costs by 98%. Built on a hybrid design, Grok 4 Fast can switch between complex reasoning and fast modes, depending on the task. Grok 4 Fast tops search tasks and ranks eighth on text tasks in LMArena.
2. OpenAI is reportedly building pocket-sized AI devices: The ChatGPT maker is reportedly working on a pocket-sized, screen-free AI device designed by Apple’s former chief designer, Jony Ive. According to reports, future gadgets could also include glasses, a digital voice recorder, and a wearable pin. The first products are targeted for late 2026 or early 2027, as OpenAI aims to build a “family of devices” that are contextually aware, portable, and tightly integrated with AI.
3. US TikTok deal nears completion: A deal to spin out TikTok’s US operations under majority American ownership is expected “in the coming days”. Americans will hold six of seven board seats. Oracle will manage data security, and the algorithm will be US-controlled. President Trump said that both he and China’s Xi Jinping have approved the framework. Investors reportedly include Oracle, Michael Dell, Andreessen Horowitz, and Fox Corp, with ByteDance retaining under 20% ownership.
